Some clients need specific movement for their work. We have been working on that while being careful with her glute issue. It can be a challenging but fun part of personal training to me.

About this client
This person works at daycare, and has some issues with her gluteal region. Her glutes get tired after long hours of working or being used too much.
Lifting from the ground – Squat & Deadlift –
Just because she is a professional at taking care of little babies doesn’t mean she is good at lifting. According to this client, most of her co-workers have some degree of low back issues from working at daycare. So we have been working on proper form of lifting.
She has learned traditional ways of squatting and deadlifting. She needs to take a rest between the sessions since her glute needs extra time to recover.
Lifting from the ground – Lunge –
In some situations during her shift at daycare, doing squats or deadlifts to lift a baby is not always possible. She needs to use a lunge to lift them. We started to work from scratch.

After she learned how to engage the core muscles, first we worked on hip extension to start lifting a weight on both sides (obviously mimicking the movement to lift a baby).
Focusing on her spine neutral, and letting the hip that is glute muscles to work (like good morning exercise but sitting position). Also the object is directly straight down from her shoulders, so she won’t swing while lifting. Lastly the object should be close to her body, otherwise it may be too much for her back to lift.

Now you are in the half kneeling position, so we next work on lunge from the ground, and stand up.
